diversity, equity and inclusion statement

We would like to remind all our members that proactive practices can be taken by all to contribute to making activities and collaboration safe and beneficial for all:

• We gain strength from diversity. As a member of the LeWiBo community, actively seek participation from those who enhance it. Ensure that diverse groups collaborate to their mutual advantage and enjoyment;

​

• Encourage all voices. Help new perspectives be heard and listen actively. If you find yourself dominating a discussion, it is especially important to step back and encourage other voices to join in;

​

• Push for equality in all activities and actively stand up to inequality, discrimination, and aggression when you witness them;

​

• Identify and acknowledge structural inequalities and biases that affect the potential of all individuals to fulfill their goals;

​

• Step outside of your comfort zone and engage with others assuming their goodwill and good intentions. We all make mistakes. Be patient and help others actively understand their own biases;

​

• Push to strengthen the support for traditionally under-represented groups to fully participate in our activities;

​

• Use every day as an opportunity to demonstrate to under-respresented groups that they are welcome in education and science;

​

• Set examples through mentorship and through fostering an atmosphere of encouragement and collaboration, not one of divisiveness;

​

• Use the language of science to bridge the divides that separate societies and to enhance global diplomacy.
