Lights - camera - imagination -- GO!

students from 6 berlin schools made stop-motion movies inspired by planetary science talks during EPSC GOES LIVE FOR SCHOOLS 2024

During the weeks 9th-20th of September 6 secondary schools in Berlin hosted 5 scientists from the nearby EPSC conference to talk to them about planetary science. The talented Argentinian visual and film artist Carolina Boettner then guided the students in a STEAM workshop. There, they made a stop-motion movie inspired by the talk they just heard. But can you make art out of trivial everyday items and only your cellphone? It turns out that yes. Paper cuts, plastic balls, hand written messages and imagination is all one needs. Habitable exoplanets, potential Dyson spheres (?), and for sure, the collisions among planetesimals left a lasting impression on the students! Enjoy the result of their work below:

With special thanks to hosting schools and to the visiting scientists Giuliano Liuzzi, Michael Kueppers, Jose Silva, Henrik Knierim and Severin Wipf.
